Our History

Over 35 years ago one man’s eccentric passion for packaging translated into the creation of a truly unique converting company.

The story starts in the 1970’s. George Vins was a young and extremely knowledgeable Technical Director for E S & A Robinson. George, a chemical engineer, was motivated to start a packaging materials company to develop leading edge solutions for customers.

The company was established in 1977 in Bradford Ontario. At that time Vins Plastics had 6 employees and concentrated on extrusion coating/lamination. George’s strong technical knowledge in polymers led to the development of unique material constructions using complex combinations of various materials such as paper, foil and films.

Vins Plastics expanded into Flexographic printing, purchasing their first printing press 6 months after the company was founded. Obtaining additional printing equipment created the ability to lay down more colours. This offered opportunities to produce more elaborate designs, which eventually led to gravure printing capabilities for higher quality graphics.

By 1980 the company had gained expertise in the industry and diversified further into adhesive lamination, and in 1981 Vins Plastics began including pouch making as part of its services. In the mid 1980’s, Jamie Vins, son of George, joined the company full time and brought not only strong technical skills, but managerial and business expertise.

In 1990, the company built a specialized, state of the art 80,000 sq ft manufacturing plant adjacent to its property in Bradford.

Vins Plastics differentiated its printing capabilities once again with a move into lithographic printing on thin films for lamination.

Lithographic printing on thin films was a revolution for flexible packaging. This was one of the first major innovations Vins Plastics made to offer a service never before provided to the industry.

More recently, Vins Plastics invested heavily in new advanced machinery and technology. State of the art printing presses and fully automated high speed finishing equipment lines are some of the many new technology acquired. Vins Plastics is a global leader in the flexible packaging industry and is committed to change and growth within an ever increasingly competitive marketplace.

The tradition of the family business continues. Jamie, CEO, welcomes his two sons to further the company’s growth and leadership in packing research, design, and quality product development.
